Recently, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa suspended the extension in tenure of Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa till tomorrow. Justice Khosa dismissed the application and took up the petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution under the interest of the public. The case was changed over into a Suo moto. The summit court likewise gave notification to the defence ministry, the Federal government and Gen Bajwa, who is expected to resign on November 29. The meeting was deferred until Wednesday. The warning for extension in tenure was given on August 19 and was marked by Prime Minister Imran Khan. When the hearing was proceeding, the chief justice said that when the summary issued mentioned an ‘extension’ while the notification issued by PM Office says the army chief has been ‘reappointed’. He further said
“As per rules, there is no authority of extending army chief’s tenure or his reappointment. The government can only suspend his retirement and the army chief has not retired yet,” said the CJP.
